Why this exists

Sensitive matters deserve a private chat.

A Sidebar session opens inside a formal attorney engagement. Ask AI about business disputes, employment, family law, personal injury, and more.

A public AI chat

  • Logs may be discoverable in litigation
  • Inputs may train future models
  • No lawyer, no legal advice
  • You can't see what's retained or where

A Sidebar session

  • Opened under a signed engagement letter
  • A lawyer of your choice — engaged before you type a word
  • Anthropic Enterprise — your inputs are not used to train AI
Attorney-client privilege and work product

Attorney-client privilege can protect your chats.

  • Your lawyer can advise when your chat could be protected by attorney-client privilege.
  • When your lawyer is present in the chat with AI, the work-product doctrine may protect — and keep private — the preparations made for a legal dispute.
From the network

Stop typing sensitive information into your normal AI chats. It's not protected, and it could cause a big problem in the future.

That's the first thing I tell new clients. Opposing counsel may request your AI chat history in addition to your emails and company communications. When the dispute gets real, that history doesn't disappear — it gets requested.

A lawyer should be in the chat with you before you get into the details.

How it works

Start chatting with the lawyer in the loop instantly.

Then it's just you, the AI, and your lawyer.

Step 01
i

Choose your lawyer.

Pick a licensed attorney from our network — filtered by your state and matter — or invite your own.

Step 02
ii

Open a private session.

Your inputs are not used to train AI. Workspace contents are accessible only to you and the lawyer(s) you invite.

Step 03
iii

Your lawyer in the workspace.

Engaged under their own engagement letter. Your lawyer can read the conversation, comment, and reply — outside any AI.

The product

This is what it looks like.

A chat, but with the parts you've been missing: a real lawyer in your workspace and an engagement letter already in place.

Claude answers in real time, in the same window.
Your lawyer can read along, comment, and reply.

Attorney-client privilege: Yes
Walk me through this non-compete clause. 12 months feels excessive for a Series A.
Claude · via Sidebar
Three things stand out. The 12-month duration is on the long end for NY — courts narrow these toward 6–9 months. The geographic scope is likely unenforceable as drafted. And there's no garden-leave provision…
Anya Holloway · Counsel
Good summary. I'd push back on the duration and the scope in your counter — I've drafted this language for two similar offers this quarter.

FAQ

Common questions.

The honest answers — including what Sidebar isn’t.

Will my chats on Sidebar be covered by attorney-client privilege?

Whether a particular conversation is protected by attorney-client privilege, the work-product doctrine, or any other legal protection is a fact-specific legal determination and depends on the matter, the jurisdiction, and the lawyer involved. Sidebar cannot answer this question for you. Sidebar can connect you with a lawyer from the network, you can add your own lawyer, or both. Your lawyer can advise you on how privilege applies to your specific situation.

What does Sidebar do, exactly?

Sidebar is a technology platform that provides a private workspace where you can use leading AI models alongside a lawyer of your choice. Sidebar is not a law firm and does not provide legal services. Legal services on Sidebar are provided directly by the independent lawyer you choose, under that lawyer’s own engagement letter.

What does Sidebar not do?

Sidebar does not provide legal advice, legal services, or representation. Sidebar does not represent users in court or in formal legal matters. Sidebar does not file legal documents or pleadings. Sidebar does not guarantee any specific legal outcome.

Is Sidebar a law firm?

No. Sidebar is a technology platform. Sidebar is not a law firm and does not provide legal services.
